Member Spotlight

Elise_faceIn this Member Spotlight, we interview Elise Mesedahl, a Senior Project Manager at EF Education First, an international education organization.

Not only is Elise a relatively new member of our IABC Boston, but she has graciously agreed to serve as our new Webmaster.

What are your responsibilities at EF Education First?

I’ve been with EF for more than eight years. I started in sales, designing and building custom educational tours for high school teachers and their students. I moved on to Customer Loyalty and Retention and now focus on Client Relations, Events and Marketing.

What ties all these roles together?

It always comes back to communications. Whether it’s copywriting – brochures, email campaigns, web content, executive briefs – or project management for client events, communications is involved. Every day I craft messages to engage clients externally or employees internally. I think it all starts with caring about the message and deciding how best to get it across to your audience.

Is this what brought you to IABC?

I was drawn to the networking and resources. The members have experience and know-how in communications, and I wanted to tap into that. I’ve been pleased that members are so open about talking about their roles as communicators and the communications functions in their organizations.

Can members expect any changes or enhancements to the IABC Boston web site?

We’ll start with the basics–is it easy to navigate? Is it uncluttered?  Does the current functionality (like the live Twitter feed) work?  Then, we’ll look at the design lay-out and move some things around.  We’ll even try to add-in new functionality like video and discussion boards. Of course, content is very important, so we will want to enrich it where we can.

Jeanne Brady (Past President and Web Master) and my husband–an architect by day, web designer by night–will be helping with the restructuring.

We certainly welcome member suggestions and comments. My goal is to make the site a useful and engaging resource to members.

You sound energetic. What are some of your favorite leisure activities?

One of the perks of my job is traveling, and I love it.  I’m off to Nepal this summer, and I’ve been on safari in Tanzania, to Israel, Brazil, China…. I’m also a member of the Union Boat Club (rowing club), and I’ve competed in the Head of the Charles five times now.
